Community Government and Services

History

Although originally settled in 1832, the area remained rural until well into the 20th century. The Village of Lisle was not incorporated until 1956. Its 1956 population of 3,200 had grown to about 22,000 by 1999.

The Village of Lisle annexed and approved a planned unit development for Green Trails in 1974, and has overseen all stages of Green Trails' development. When the original developer bowed out in 1982, the Village acted to ensure that all Green Trails common areas were completed.

Building activity spanned more than twenty years. Many of the later subdivisions were developed less densely than originally planned. Adjacent Hidden Lake and Collegewood Court were developed in the late 1990's.

Village

Village government provides a variety of services including police protection; water, sewer, and street maintenance; building inspections, etc. You may register to vote, apply for commuter parking permits or obtain dog licenses in the Village Hall at 1040 Burlington Avenue. Phone (630) 271-4100 for all departments, or (630) 271-4110 for recorded information on a variety of topics, including refuse/recycling.

Fire Protection

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District provides fire and paramedic service to a large area, including all of Lisle. The district has earned one of the top fire ratings in the country. Their attractive Station #4 is located at the center of Green Trails.

Schools

Green Trails lies within nationally acclaimed Community Unit School District 203 (Naperville). District 203 provides kindergarten through 12th grade public education to more than 18,500 students. Its students have consistently scored well above national averages at all testing levels and earned myriad awards.

Green Trails students attend Steeple Run and Highlands Elementary Schools, Kennedy Jr. High, and Naperville North High School. Except for students walking to Kennedy Jr. High, which is located within Green Trails, busing is provided. Check with the School Administration Center (630-420-6300) to confirm specific school assignments and for general information.
