of the Green Trails Improvement Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Tuesday April 14, 2009
President, Peter Bakas called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM at
Kennedy Jr High School. Board members present: Peter Bakas, Pat
Coughlin-Schillo, Marisa DeAngelis, Rob Getz, Linda Gilbert, Don
Helgeson, Marg Hough, Gerry Jackson, Terri Kolman, Julie LaFond, Les
Lavin, Christy McGovern, Roxanne Nagel, Michael Olson. Board member
excused: Rodd Elges. Management: Joanne Broda. Paula Gleason was
Recording Secretary. A quorum was present.

Forum
A Green Trails area merchant was in attendance for observation.
Minutes
of the Prior Meeting:
Minutes of the March
meeting were reviewed.
Board Motion:
Julie LaFond moved to approve the March minutes, Michael
Olson seconded. The motion was passed by unanimous voice vote.
Treasurer's
Report
Don Helgeson
reviewed the March Balance Sheet and Income and Expense Statement.
There was discussion regarding the beginning mowing date of April 20th.
Board Motion: Marg Hough motioned to accept the revised check register
expenditures of $28,456.63 for April, Linda Gilbert seconded. The
motion was passed by unanimous voice vote.
Management Report
Telephone log line items were reviewed.
Management noted that two partial payments and two payments
in full have been received for 2008 delinquent assessments.
After Board approval of the March check register in the
amount of $9,859.52, Management received a Nationwide Insurance
invoice for a certificate of insurance that had been issued last
fall. Management prepared a check in the amount of $50, making the
new March check register $9,909.52.
As directed at last month’s meeting, 20 pines were
purchased and will be picked up on 4/22 by Gerry Jackson. Planting
will be done by Board volunteers on Saturday, 4/25 at 9 AM.
Discussion ensued regarding the overall plan for tree planting. It
was noted that another 30 larger trees will be planted along College
Road in the fall.
Gregg Moore met with
Management on 3/30 to discuss the west sign accent area at Green
Trails Drive and Naper. Gregg will prepare a redesign plan to be
presented at next month’s Board meeting.
This year’s art
project is a two-piece cement bird bath at a purchase price of $100.
The consensus of the Board was to purchase one bird bath; Roxanne
Nagel volunteered to do the artwork for GTIA.
Management noted
that there were no new sales in March for the College Green
apartment-condo conversion.
Management reported
that there were no new sales in March in the Torrey Pines conversion.
Management provided
a list of March 2009 newcomers. Board Directors are encouraged to
call on newcomers in their respective areas.
Finance Committee
Don Helgeson
distributed copies of the GTIA 2008 audit as prepared and presented by
the auditor, Robert Ripp, to Peter Bakas, Michael Olson and himself at
a Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 24th. The overall
report was most favorable.
Board Motion:
Julie LaFond moved to accept the GTIA 2008 audit as
presented, Terri Kolman seconded. The motion was passed by unanimous
voice vote.
Maintenance Committee
Les Lavin reported that Schwarz Nursery replaced the trees along
College Road that had died. Les requested a professional roofer to
inspect the Gazebo roof, following an email that the Gazebo roof was
in disrepair. The opinion of the roofer was that the Gazebo does not
yet require a new roof. Les noted that more mulch is needed along
rows in the Pine Grove. The consensus of the Board was to request
Management have a local contractor install single process mulch in
that area, in an amount not to exceed $750.00. The Maintenance
Committee will meet prior to next month’s Board meeting to review area
trail maps that reflect findings of trip hazards, drainage problems
and miscellaneous repair requirements as documented by Board members
during their inspections.
Communications Committee
Marg Hough called a meeting of the Communications Committee to review
a proposed link to the GTIA website. The link is from a Green Trails
resident who has created a Green Trails Community networking site and
would like to be linked to the GTIA website. The full committee will
meet again prior to the next Board meeting to discuss the pros and
cons of this request.
Parks
Committee
Marg Hough reported that the Park District has established a “no-mow”
area around ponds and is requesting residents to honor that policy in
the interest of ecology.
Nominating Committee
No report.
Old Business - New Business
Peter Bakas extended congratulations on behalf of the Board to Joe
Broda for his re-election as Mayor of the Village of Lisle.
Gerry Jackson noted as a matter of information that a flock of
pelicans has nested at Fermi Lab.
Board Member Area Reports

Executive Session
Board Motion:
Gerry Jackson motioned to adjourn to Executive session, Rob Getz
seconded. The motion was passed by a unanimous voice vote at 8:30 p.m.
Board Motion: Marg Hough motioned to adjourn the Executive session,
Terri Kolman seconded. The motion was passed by a unanimous voice vote
at 8:39 p.m.

There being no further business, Gerry Jackson motioned to adjourn the
meeting, Marg Hough seconded. The motion was passed by a unanimous
voice vote; the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
