Minutes
of the Green Trails Improvement Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Tuesday May 13, 2003
Meeting was
called to order by Vice President, Joan Dudas at 7:30 p.m., prior
to the arrival of President, Peter Bakas. Board members present:

Open
Forum
A concerned resident presented
his findings regarding pressure treated wood in some of the GTIA and Park
District park tables and benches that contain small amounts of arsenic.
Several articles of research were distributed to the Board for review, which
included advice not to pressure wash or use bleach and/or acid on this
material. The resident is most concerned about getting the word out to
families and children. The Board suggested he might submit an article to
the Pathfinder, and also attend the next Park District Board meeting to
obtain information on what other options the Park District has discussed.
The EPA has advised that wood treated with this formula will no longer be
available after 12/03. As related by Joanne Broda, according to Dan Garvey
of Lisle Park District, the EPA did not feel there is any real health threat
when this wood is used in benches and play equipment, but should not be used
in food preparation areas.
